Summary

During the Soviet era, repressions primarily targeted artists: some were persecuted, while others sought refuge abroad. Among the latter was the Georgian writer, essayist, and thinker Grigol Robakidze (1880–1962). His works, which circulated quietly by hand until the 1970s, began to be reprinted, read, discussed, and critically examined by the end of the 20th century. It was through Robakidze’s lectures and essays that the foundations of Georgian modernist ideology were laid.
