Summary

The paper examines Yakob Gogebashvili’s views on the role of the native language in Д the formation of adolescents’ aesthetic consciousness. The relevance of the issue is determined by the ongoing social and cultural changes in contemporary society, which place particular importance on the intellectual, moral, emotional, and aesthetic development of the younger generation. The aim of the study is to highlight the educational and aesthetic functions of the native language based on Yakob Gogebashvili’s pedagogical legacy and to identify the ways in which language teaching contributes to the formation of adolescents’ aesthetic consciousness. The paper analyzes Gogebashvili’s views on the significance of the native language, artistic language, folk verbal art, folklore, and children’s literature. Particular attention is paid to the role of “Deda Ena” (“Mother Tongue”) as an integrated educational means combining language instruction and aesthetic education. The analysis demonstrates that, for Gogebashvili, the native language was not merely a means of communication and acquiring knowledge; it was also an important foundation for the development of the child’s emotions and intellect, familiarization with national culture, cultivation of aesthetic taste, and harmonious personal development.
