The article examines innovative approaches to the formation of research competencies of higher education students under martial law. Changes in the educational environment caused by the war, which have actualized the issues of mobility, digitalization, academic integrity, psychological resilience, and the need for new pedagogical strategies, are analyzed. It has been established that in wartime conditions, the development of students’ abilities to conduct scientific inquiry, apply interdisciplinary methods, critically analyze information, and generate new knowledge oriented toward solving current social and professional challenges acquires particular significance. Innovative approaches to the formation of research competencies are outlined, with project-based and problem-based learning, case methods, the integration of digital platforms, virtual laboratories, and blended and distance learning formats identified as key. Emphasis is placed on the importance of engaging higher education students in research aimed at studying the social, economic, and educational consequences of the war, which ensures the practical relevance of the obtained results. Pedagogical conditions contributing to the effectiveness of this process have been determined, including the creation of a supportive educational environment, the development of academic integrity, the fostering of students’ intrinsic motivation, and their involvement in research projects. The necessity of providing psychological support to students, which ensures the preservation of their cognitive activity and research potential even under crisis conditions, has been highlighted. It has been proven that the use of innovative approaches in the process of developing research competencies contributes to improving the quality of higher education, fosters the ability of future specialists to respond flexibly to contemporary challenges, find non-standard solutions, and actively participate in the post-war reconstruction of the state.
