With the development of laparoscopic techniques and anesthetic support, laparoscopy has become a safe method of treating many acute conditions in pregnant women. Pregnancy is accompanied by significant changes in the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and other systems, which affects the safety of surgery. For example, a 40% increase in blood volume and displacement of the diaphragm due to the enlarged uterus create additional challenges for doctors. The introduction of pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopy can affect blood circulation, so during the operation a special approach and the use of special techniques are required to maintain a stable level of blood supply to the uterus and avoid fetal hypoxia.
This article aims to review key aspects of laparoscopy during pregnancy, including physiological changes in the woman's body, potential risks, benefits, and recommendations from national medical societies for the safe performance of surgical procedures in pregnant women. The main focus is on the conditions under which laparoscopy is a safe choice for the treatment of urgent conditions in pregnant women, as well as recommendations for minimizing risks to the mother and fetus.
